What does building a successful property management company that runs without you and songwriting have in common? I’ll explain in a second, but first let me tell you a quick story.
A few years ago, I (Steve) was driving to Vegas with my wife Courtney, for a long awaited vacation together, when my phone rang.
An AC unit at one of our rental properties had exploded. Not broke down, but actually blew up! Hazmat was involved, the tenant was claiming to be sick from the chemicals, and the owner was freaking out.
I spent the last two hours of the drive as well as the first hour at the hotel dealing with the situation. Coaching my team what to do, calming down an upset owner and tenant, and taking me away from our long awaited vacation alone. All the while my wife sat silent, staring into space. I was right next to her, but felt a million miles away.
Every property management entrepreneur faces the same enemy: a business running their life.
Where does this come up for you?
- Having loved ones sense your distraction and feel like your not present even when your with them.
- Giving up your passions, because all your energy is going into the business.
- Feeling a disconnect between your ideal life and reality.
- Not hitting your business goals
- Working on vacation and rationalizing why it’s necessary.
The problem is we lose sight of WHY we started the business in the first place.
We’re just not willing to stand for this anymore.
We are not willing to let our brothers and sisters in this industry kill themselves building a business and miss out on the life they once dreamed of having.
Our mission is to build a community of property management entrepreneurs who focus on driving intention and action around building a wildly successful business that serves YOU and your ideal lifestyle, not the other way around.
The really cool thing is, it’s not great business or a happy, fulfilled life. Living a life true to yourself IS the key to building the business of your dreams!
When you are living a life true to yourself, you are much happier and fulfilled. This creates space to focus on truly serving others. When you have a more positive impact on others, your company becomes more successful.
Oh, remember that thing I mentioned about music?
One thing you may not know about me is that I am a singer/songwriter. Over the past 10+ years of making music, I’ve realized the power of co-creation first-hand.
Music helps me create a good life. And what I realized more and more, although I typically will create music on my own, when I get in the room with the right people, the songs flow with less effort, the quality is way better, and there is a connection that makes the process more fun and uplifting.
Same things happens as a property management company owner. A lot of times we feel isolated and yes you have to put your head down and do the work. But when you get in the room with the right people, who understand what your going through, and can be your co-creators, everything accelerates.
Working with the right people, you see things you never saw, you get better results, new ideas bubble to the surface, your paradigm shifts, you are less in your head, you get real time feedback, and it flows better!
But even if you know other property management entrepreneurs, you may not feel comfortable being vulnerable and sharing fully with them. It can be difficult to find a confidential, judgment-free zone, where it’s okay not to know the answer and ask for help, no matter what the issue is.
You can’t read the label from inside the bottle, and you can’t audit the quality of your own thoughts in relation to your own problems. It’s a closed loop – and getting outside counsel from people that are invested in your success and understand your problem is where breakthrough happens.
At Tribe, yes we talk about various management “hacks” and best practices, but that isn’t the point of Tribe. If information was all we needed we’d all have six pack abs, billion-dollar businesses, and perfect relationships.
Those things only have value and meaning when used in the context of the bigger picture they are designed to further. It’s the relational context and co-creation around a common purpose that shifts ideas into outcomes.
We Believe in:
- Putting what lights you up at the forefront of your life
- Service to others as our north star
- Not putting off dreams for some day
- Co-creation as a means for 10x results
- Creating space as a catalyst to greater joy, success, and abundance
- Why and Who over How and What
So who’s with us?
Yours in Change,
Steve, Jordan, & Rita
